Who We Are

We are the “Shamokin Dam Alliance Church,” a congregation of about 100 people situated on seven acres of beautiful land here in the Susquehanna Valley. The church was organized about 25 years ago. We meet together often to worship God through the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer and song. We believe that the Bible alone is the Word of God and must govern our lives and activities.

What We're Here For

The Shamokin Dam Alliance Church exists as a community of believers committed to exalting God, edifying one another, and evangelizing unbelievers with the gospel of Jesus Christ. See more about what we do

Our Connection

Our church is part of an international missional organization, The Christian and Missionary Alliance (established in 1887) with headquarters in Colorado Springs. We are just one church among more than 350,000 believers who worship in 19 languages in 2,000 U.S. C&MA churches. Across the world 3 million people gather in 16,000 Alliance churches and church groups. In 75 countries our Alliance is doing work.

Our Story

In 1983, the Eastern District placed an ad in the Daily Item newspaper, expressing an interest in starting an Alliance church in the area. Through that announcement a group of people came together, first in the Holiday Inn, to conduct a meeting. Several meetings were held at the home of a local family and later were held in a local Youth For Christ building. Rev. Donald Reitz met with them on Sundays at 8:30. Other area Alliance pastors helped as well. By February of 1984, a group of interested people met together on Sunday evenings for an informal Bible study. The first public worship service was held on a Sunday in June of that year. The first full-time pastor, Rev. Dennis Gugger, arrived in October. In 1985, the church purchased their present 7 acres of property and the following year a parsonage was built on the property. In May of 1989, construction of the present church building was begun and the first service was held there on December 17.
